April Already...

I finished a complete rewrite of The Teardrop Game last year, and I'm quite happy with it. With that finished, I needed a break from Finn's world for a while.

I have a new diary style story that I intended to be a quick novella but has grown into something rather more extensive. At 76,000 words, it's still in progress and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I do intend to wrap it up soon, though, and get back to the trilogy.

Trilogy Update

I'm not sure I've ever had a year fly by quite like 2012 has. My writing goals have shifted, but not changed too dramatically. Here's what I've done:

  • Although my initial plan was to write the third book in the trilogy, then rework the first a bit, I got 20,000 words into the third and had an epiphany about my main character, and how the first book was limiting the whole series a bit.

So... I pitched the entire first book (again) and started over. I'm now just over 100,000 words into the rewrite, and I'm very excited about it. I think it's a much stronger story than the original, both in terms of characters and plot.
I am determined to get a draft finished by the end of 2012. But the third book in the trilogy will be a project for next year.

Trilogy

I'm still working on my blog-style novella, but I've also started a new novel. With the sequel to the Teardrop Game done, I feel compelled to write a third. And I'm excited to write a third. I think my writing goals for 2012 will be the following:

  • finish Another Year or Two
  • finish the third book of the Teardrop Game series
  • rewrite (again) the first section of the Teardrop Game (I've reread this recently and realized it is more or less irrelevant to the rest of the book. *sigh)
  • clean up all three books and see what I have
Should be fun.

Something Else Entirely

I've decided to take a new approach to writing my next novel. Basically, I'm going to write the whole thing online, using a blogging platform to create posts by multiple characters.

If you'd like to learn more about what I'm doing, how and why, see this page.
